ATP
Zverev clinches year-end No. 1
Since 12 October it has been certain that Alexander Zverev will finish 2026 as world No. 1 in the ATP rankings. It was decided when Carlos Alcaraz lost to Zizou Bergs in Shanghai, with Jannik Sinner having already announced that he will not play again this year. Zverev is the first German to achieve it – Boris Becker held No. 1 for spells in 1991 but never finished a year on top. On the cut-off date of 23 November he will be 29 years and 217 days old, the oldest player to finish a year at No. 1 for the first time: three days older than Andre Agassi in 1999 and 20 days older than Andy Murray in 2016. The foundation was laid at the majors – titles at Roland Garros and the US Open, a Wimbledon final and a 25-2 record at this season's Grand Slams. How his ranking has developed is on Zverev's ATP ranking.
