Alexander Zverev's Grand Slam record changed fundamentally in 2026. For years the Hamburg native was considered the best player without a major title: three lost finals (US Open 2020, Roland Garros 2024, Australian Open 2025) and numerous semifinals filled his stat sheet. Then he won Roland Garros on 7 June 2026 and the US Open on 13 September 2026, adding a semifinal in Melbourne and his first Wimbledon final. As of 4 October 2026, Zverev has won two titles from 43 Grand Slam appearances, and his match record at the four biggest tournaments stands at 138-41. This page covers Zverev Grand Slams year by year: his results at all four majors, his finals with scores and the key wins and losses.

The table below shows how far Zverev has gone at every Grand Slam tournament since 2016. Titles, finals and semifinals are highlighted in color. The progression is easy to see: in his first years on tour he usually went out in the first three rounds, from 2020 he regularly reached the second week, and in 2026 he made at least the semifinals at all four majors.

The gaps in 2022 have a clear reason: in the Roland Garros semifinal against Rafael Nadal, Zverev suffered a serious ankle injury and had to retire at 6-7(8), 6-6. As a result he missed Wimbledon and the US Open in 2022. Wimbledon 2020 was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Australian Open: consistency in Melbourne, but no title yet
Melbourne is a special place for Zverev: in 2014 he won the boys' singles there, beating Stefan Kozlov 6-3, 6-0 in the final. As a pro he needed several attempts. After a first-round loss in 2016 and two third-round showings, he reached the round of 16 in 2019 and his first Grand Slam semifinal in 2020. Then came the 2021 quarterfinal, semifinals in 2024 and 2026 and the 2025 final. At 36-11, the Australian Open is his second-best major after Roland Garros, but he has yet to win the title there.
2025 final against Sinner
In 2025, Zverev played his third Grand Slam final in Melbourne. On the way he did not drop a set against Lucas Pouille, Pedro Martinez and Jacob Fearnley, and in the semifinal Novak Djokovic retired after the first set (7-6(5) to Zverev). In the final on 26 January 2025, Jannik Sinner was clearly the better player and won 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3.
2026 semifinal against Alcaraz
In 2026, Zverev reached the semifinals past Gabriel Diallo, Alexandre Muller, Cameron Norrie, Francisco Cerúndolo and Learner Tien. There he trailed Carlos Alcaraz by two sets to love, won two tiebreaks and only lost in the fifth set on 30 January 2026: 4-6, 6-7(5), 7-6(3), 7-6(4), 5-7.
Roland Garros: from injury shock to his first Grand Slam title
Zverev is at his best on clay, and Roland Garros is his strongest major: his 45-10 record is the best of all four tournaments. Since 2018 he has reached at least the quarterfinals in Paris every year except 2020 (round of 16). From 2021 to 2023 he made three semifinals in a row – in 2022 it ended with the ankle injury against Nadal.
In 2024 he beat Nadal in the first round in what turned out to be their last meeting. In the final he led Alcaraz two sets to one but still lost 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, 1-6, 2-6. In 2025 he went out in the quarterfinals against Djokovic (6-4, 3-6, 2-6, 4-6).
The 2026 title
In 2026, Zverev won seven matches in Paris and dropped only four sets. He beat Benjamin Bonzi, Tomas Machac, Quentin Halys, Jesper de Jong, Rafael Jodar and, in the semifinal, Jakub Mensik. In the final on 7 June 2026 he defeated Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 after 4 hours and 16 minutes. It was his first Grand Slam title. He is the first German men's champion in Paris since Henner Henkel in 1937 and, according to Wikipedia, the first player with type 1 diabetes to win a major.
Wimbledon: first final on grass
For a long time Wimbledon was Zverev's weakest major. Until 2025 he never got past the round of 16 (2017, 2021 and 2024), and in 2019 and 2025 he lost in the first round. In 2025 he fell to Arthur Rinderknech in five sets, 6-7(3), 7-6(8), 3-6, 7-6(5), 4-6. Grass is also his toughest surface overall: he has lost all four of his finals on grass, including two in Halle and one in Stuttgart.
In 2026 he then produced his best Wimbledon. After an opening win with three tiebreaks against Alexander Blockx, he beat Valentin Royer, Marcos Giron, Jiri Lehecka, Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals (6-4, 6-4, 6-2) and Arthur Fery in the semifinals. In the final on 12 July 2026 he won the first set against Jannik Sinner in a tiebreak but then lost 7-6(7), 6-7(2), 3-6, 4-6. At 22-10, Wimbledon remains the major with his lowest winning record.
US Open: final lost in 2020, title in 2026
New York is where Zverev suffered his most painful Grand Slam defeat. In the 2020 final he led Dominic Thiem by two sets to love but lost 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 6-7(6). It was his first major final. After that came the 2021 semifinal, quarterfinals in 2023 and 2024, and a third-round exit against Félix Auger-Aliassime in 2025.
The 2026 title
The road to the 2026 title started with a struggle. In the first round Zverev trailed Lorenzo Sonego two sets to one and won 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(7), 7-5, 6-4. Against Quentin Halys he also needed five sets. After that he beat Alejandro Tabilo, Luciano Darderi, Botic van de Zandschulp and Karen Khachanov without dropping a set. In the final on 13 September 2026 he defeated Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-2. According to Wikipedia, the winner's prize money was $5.5 million. Also according to Wikipedia, Zverev is only the fourth man in the Open Era to win his first two Grand Slam titles in the same year.
The 2026 Grand Slam season: 25 wins, two losses
2026 is Zverev's best Grand Slam year: he won 25 of 27 matches. His only losses came against Alcaraz in the Melbourne semifinal and against Sinner in the Wimbledon final. For comparison, his previous best year was 2024 with an 18-4 record. The two titles laid the foundation for Zverev finishing the 2026 season as the first German at No. 1 in the ATP rankings – this has been certain since 12 October 2026. How Zverev won his two Grand Slam titles in 2026
Two titles, 14 wins in Paris and New York – and a field that looked different from previous years. A Grand Slam is won against the opponents on the other side of the net. But the full story also includes who was missing from the two tournaments or went out early – and how close Zverev himself came to defeat along the way.
Roland Garros: the favourite who did not stumble

Carlos Alcaraz, the champion in 2024 and 2025, was absent from Paris. Tendinitis in his right wrist, picked up in Barcelona in mid-April, cost him the entire clay season and later Wimbledon as well. Jannik Sinner led Juan Manuel Cerúndolo 6-3, 6-2, 5-1 in the second round, felt unwell in the heat and still lost in five sets. Novak Djokovic went out in the third round against Brazil's Joao Fonseca after leading by two sets to love. Zverev was one of the few top favourites left in the draw and handled the pressure: he won seven matches, the final against Flavio Cobolli after 4 hours 16 minutes.

US Open: two points from defeat, then the title
Sinner missed New York with a knee injury, so Zverev went into the tournament as the No. 1 seed. It almost ended at once: against Lorenzo Sonego he trailed by two sets to one and 4-5 in the fourth set, two points from defeat. He would have been the first top-seeded man since 2003 to lose in the first round of a Grand Slam. Djokovic had already gone out in the first round against Mariano Navone. Alcaraz returned in New York after his injury break and lost his quarterfinal to Ben Shelton in a fifth-set match tiebreak – the same Shelton whom Zverev beat in the final.
Where Sinner and Alcaraz played, they stopped him
Zverev's only two Grand Slam defeats of the season came against the players who won the other two majors: against Alcaraz in the Australian Open semifinal after 5 hours 27 minutes and against Sinner in the Wimbledon final. That makes the 25-2 record two things at once – the best Grand Slam season of his career and a sign that he has yet to beat either of the two leading players of the new generation at a major.
